My wife and I are truly products of the South. Both of us born and spent our childhood and youth in the towns of Farmerville (my hometown) and Jonesboro-Hodge (her hometown). We met at Louisiana Tech University in 1964 and married in 1966. After graduating with a master's degree in Microbiology we moved to Marshall, Texas where I began to teach life science.
In May of this year, I retired from higher education and began the life of a retiree. Marilyn had retired several years prior to care for her mother who suffered from Alzheimer's. She lived with us for eight years passing on to be with our heavenly father in August of 2011 with the both of us and our two daughters by her side.
About three years ago, I began to become interested in family history. After acquiring some family tree software and joining Ancestry.com, I began to trace our roots which extend across the entire South. That is what this Blog is about. Our journey to discover our past. When you are young it rarely crosses your mind but as you age, you begin to spend more time "in the past" and wondering about those who came before you.
I hope you enjoy the trip and along the way learn a thing or two about genealogical research and the rich history of the South. By the way, the title of this particular comment is taken from Josh Gorban's beautiful song "Believe". This journey will take us to many destinations across the states of the South from Louisiana to Virginia.
